NIGERIA MUST NOT DIE

Hi, Mr. High commissioner,

I read one of your articles about Nigeria image; interestingly you missed all the necessary points. While I was reading, I was just laughing, then my wife and my children came over to see why I was laughing and when they came, I simply told then that look at one of them talking. We know how Nigeria was like 35 to 20 years ago and where were you then? Why did you mention Comrade Wole Soyinka in your Article? If people like you were like Wole Soyinka and Gani Fawehinmi to mention few, Nigeria will not be talking about image rather the greatest in the whole world where investors would like to go. We know the great men and women that love Nigeria and Nigerians and not just what they can steal.

I am a lover of Ben Television but on our independent day when I saw you speaking, I was forced to change the channel because you have been in the position to change Nigeria for better for too long but you are not. Nigerians are forced into worshiping money because of the few opportunists.

Do you know why Nigeria will never come out of corruption?

How many officers around you and how are they helping the poor Nigerians in Nigeria. Tell all Nigerians world wide your economic contribution to common Nigerians in Nigeria. Why should positive thinking Nigerians go to any mission for a country where corruption is a culture? I have never seen a top officer like you ever resign from office for bad policies of the government. We all know that you are all birds of the same feather, oga. oga. oga everywhere for corruption sake.

Every officer wants to go on mission in Ministry of External Affairs and Defence just to make money and not for the interest of hungry Nigerians. Nigerians are suffering in the presence of plenty because there is corruption everywhere. Don't you think Nigerians should enjoy what you are enjoying in your mission in UK?

Like:
Water
Electricity (Ghana has just celebrated 2 years uninterrupted electricity)
Transportation (Road, air and rail)
Healthcare
Education
Security
Good roads?

Tell us who is going to bring real investment to Nigeria with the above problems.

We know that God is doing something about Nigeria. Look at the wife of the so call president of Nigeria, Millions are dying in hunger but she got our oil money (because to say tax payers money in Nigeria is an omen) the money they should have use to develop Nigeria to go and do plastic surgery. God is working in Nigeria. Think about it. What are you going to tell your children and grandchildren about corruption in Nigeria? Look at Diepreye Alamieyeseigha of Bayeisa, he brought our money here to UK we got him God exposed him and his children and family would pay for all those money uncovered like Sani Abasa.

Let all in position of power think of the poor 99.9% of Nigerians and fight corruption and stop the oga, oga thing. We are in UK, we love all we are enjoying here and we want them in Nigeria. PR work all over the world is not the solution in Nigeria. Nigerians need all we are enjoying abroad and people like you must do something about it and not about oga, oga thing.

Well, we love Alhaji Nulu Ribadu Chairman of EFCC we are going to work with him here in UK for better Nigeria. What about you?

Thanks for thinking about better Nigeria.

WHAT ARE WE GOING TO TELL THE CHILDREN UNBORN?

Nigeria Must Fight Corruption Now!
By
Adeniran Adebayo
crowncomputers@aol.com & justcrown@aol.com
Events in the recent times in Nigeria have raised hope about the government willingness to fight corruption. The President of the upper house, the Senate, was removed from office, and two ministers, Education and Housing were sacked, one for giving bribe to the senators, including the senate president, and the other for improper handling of government properties at Ikoyi, Lagos. There is a chance these people will may face trial. The governor of Bayeisa State was caught in London. Thank God Almighty, what was his plan for the poor people’s money that they caught him with in London? To buy houses at the expence of the poor people of Bayeisa State? He must be sent back to face justices. Those that helped him must also be cought because they are criminals like him. To my surprise, I saw the former Inspector General of Police, Mr. Tafa Balogun, in handcuffs, and was not surprised that the President had to intervene. He did not see why a “Big Man” should be so humiliated.

When you closely examine the huge amount, N13 billion, that Balogun was accused of embezzling you begin to imagine how Nigeria and Nigerians have been short changed by the people placed in position of authority. Imagine how far N13 billion, an equivalent of US$93 million, will go in infrastructure development. Imagine 100 of Tafa Baloguns in Nigeria and you will agree with me why the Western world has refused to grant Nigeria’s wish for a debt relief. How can a man be that greedy in the midst of poverty? The President questioning of the EFCC boss over the handcuffs puts a question mark on his sincerity to fight corruption.

The President in his public statements in April 10, 2005 reiterated his commitment to fight the “hydra-headed monster” called corruption. The President is even ready to fight the malaise with unconventional means. It will be interesting to know what that entail. The President went further to ask traditional rulers to withdraw chieftaincy title from corrupt officials. I believe he should lead the charge by withdrawing national honor from corrupt officials, for a start, Mr. Tafa Balogun’s CFR award.

Now, the big questions are: Is the President playing to the gallery and trying to impress some forces? Is he serious about fighting corruption? Does he have the moral standing to fight corruption without being consumed in the process? Will the President be bold to take the battle to some people in certain parts of the country if they are found to be involved in corruption i.e., some powerful elites from Kano power base? Will the President be bold to take the battle to former military head of state(s) with well known record of corruption? This questions become pertinent given the President past performance in this area since he assumed office. It will be recall that the President assured us in 1999 that his administration is determined to fight corruption in all places including the high places. Yet, we hear of “Ghana-Must-Go” bags from the Presidency to the Senate; unresolved high profile assassination; the reported and alleged rigging that pervaded the 2003 election; police extortion; misappropriation of money meant for oil refinery turnaround maintenance; oil bunkering; money laundering etc.

The purpose of this article is to answer why Nigeria must fight corruption. Yes, Nigeria must fight corruption because corruption has no place in a capitalist system and economy. The effect and impact of corruption results in an imbalance in the economic system, and it is directly responsible for the cancer called INFLATION. When I left Nigeria in 1996, my annual salary was about N60, 000. According to information reaching me, the same position now gets paid about N100, 000 a month, not a year. This translates to an annual salary of N1.2 million a year. Imagine how much inflation has eroded the value of money. When I was in Nigeria, 13 years ago, N50 was a lot of money, you can feed on it for a day; I have been told I need about N2,000 for a good lunch compared to N20 in 1991. How does corruption result in inflation? I will explain it by my rudimentary economics. This rudimentary economics posit that economy, in a capitalist system, sits on a two-legged stool. One side of the stool is what I will call PRODUCTIVITY and the other side is MONEY. To explain this economic model of mine, you have to assume that the money in circulation is represented by what you and I get paid for the hard work of creating goods and services, and that is all the money available. For the economy to be stable there must be a balance between the two sides. The imbalance manifests itself in INFLATION or DEFLATION. The worst is inflation. The productivity side, in simplistic term, is represented by goods and services produced through hard work and industry of the people. The money side is the money earned by those who produced goods and services on the productivity side. Where people start making money from means outside this model, then an imbalance sets in. If everybody starts collecting bride, 10% graft from contract, police and custom collecting money from importers and exporters, messengers collecting bribe before they locate files etc, these are money that is not supported by productivity or production of goods and services. In essence, you will have more money in circulation than goods and services produced from hard work and industry, thereby creating artificial demand that outstrips supply. In effect, you have lots of money chasing few goods. In essence, you have inflation.
It is my submission that the in-balance in Nigeria is from excess money in circulation. I mean the excess money that cannot be supported by productivity or genuine economic activity, and must be checked by the government to bring sanity to the system.
If you disagree with my model, then think about this scenario. You are a hard working young man. In the course of looking forward, you plan to own a house in the nearest future. Currently, a house goes for £80,000 in your area. Suddenly, house price starts climbing and there are no economic indicator(s), i.e., a sharp drop in interest rate to support the rise in house market. And before you know it, the same house has gone up to £250,000. You wonder why, and found out that drug dealers are the ones buying the houses and pushing up the price. In essence, money that cannot be supported by hard work has invaded your community and your dream of buying a house has been shattered because your salary has not changed significantly. There is no difference between drug money and bribe money; they are both unsupported by genuine economic activity. They both create artificial demand, and consequently, inflation. Why did governments in the West world fight illegal drug trafficking? They are not doing it because it is a moral thing to do; they are protecting their economy from bad money.
If you disagree again, think of a situation where a supplier supplies raw material to a manufacturer at say £1,000 a piece, and the Purchasing Manager demands 10% graft. To make profit, the supplier will have to increase the price by the 10% bribe. The increase in cost of supply will go into cost of production and finally pass on to the consumers in increase price. If this is a common practice everywhere, you will get what the economics called cost-push inflation.

Now corruption goes one step further to destroy a country. It destroys the moral fabric that makes a strong country and people. The debasement of moral values is the beginning of the end for any country. In the scenario above, if the scourge of drug money is not checked, a time will come when the young man will ask himself: Why am I working so hard to earn a living when the boys buying the houses are not as smart? In Nigeria today, money is being worship like god. You could be poor today and become a “big man” tomorrow. Nobody ask questions. There is a serious rat race. It explains why we have rouges as lawmakers. People go into government poor and come out rich, and nobody ask question. Instead, they become heroes and heroines. No nation can survive such depraved moral value for a long time.
Last week, the US ambassador to Nigeria explains why Nigeria is not a magnet for foreign investment. He cited corruption and lack of infrastructure. He said corruption has increased the cost of doing business in Nigeria. He is right. How do you account for the bribes and extortion? In business you have to report them as expense or cost of doing business. If you are a multi-national business, you compare cost of doing business in country A and B and make strategic business decision. The lack of infrastructure like energy and roads which is a direct result of corruption also escalates cost of doing business. If you have to run the business with a generator, you will pay more than those who operate with hydro.
Nigeria holds a strategic position in the world. It is a shame that a country like Ghana just celebrated 2 years of uninterrupted power supply while NEPA supply of power is a dismal failure, all because of corruption.

WHY WE MUST FIGHT CORRUPTION IN NIGERIA NOW?
To allow investors to come in for investment
For development
Accountability
Employment
For good healthcare
Education
Food
Good roads
Water
Transportation
Security
Housing.

Yes, Nigeria must fight corruption, but can Obasanjo do it? We’ll see.

WE MUST ALL FIGHT CORRUPTION NOW

TO: TO NIGERIANS AND FRIENDS OF NIGERIA AND NIGERIANS

THE ONLY WAY FORWARD

My vision for Nigeria and Nigerians is corruption free Nigeria. I mean in my lifetime, the corruption that is deterring our progress, the corruption that is making Nigerians suffering in the presence of plenty, the corruption that is making development and good things of life impossible.

Everybody is talking about investment in Nigeria, laudable programmes and projects but nobody is taking corruption seriously. We should do the first thing first. We need solid foundation first. We all need to fight corruption first in Nigeria. Without corruption, Nigeria would have been one of the greatest countries in the whole world.

People are just talking but doing nothing about it. We are coming up with a Charity Organisation non political and its mean objective shall be to help Nigeria government and Nigerians to educate Nigerians about the evil of corruption and to expose those who are guilty of it. To tell Nigerians many things they must know about the people that are putting them in the predicament they are today, those that are wasting our money all over the world and the evil of corruption and the havoc it has cause to Nigerians, You talk to a boy of 15 years about education today, what he is thinking about is the ways to get reach quick. If you could remember vividly, when we were grown up, all we were talking about is how to be educated: be lawyers, engineers, doctors, accountants, nurses and other great professions. Some of us made it but to be let down by our leaders and the corrupt Nigerians.

There is no problem without solution, government, and the world politicians all powerful people of the whole world are talking about poverty in Africa but unfortunately they are not looking at the cause or they are not taking the cause seriously and the solution to this poverty, even the Nigeria politicians. Look Nigeria was very rich before; I remember while I was growing up, Nigeria currency was greater than sterling and American dollar. The resources for great Nigeria are still there but corruption we must all fight now to be in our rightful place in the world economy.

People are talking about fighting poverty in Africa, but I say the only way to eradicate poverty in Africa is to fight corruption. The government of Nigeria has put in place a department to fight corruption now, other countries in Africa must follow suit, and they need our support to be able to win the battle. We need committed charity organizations, professionals, all the friends of Nigeria and Nigerians to support EFCC to succeed.

People in power and government should be ashamed of themselves that Nigerians are suffering in the presence of plenty.

I know the time has come for the thieves the looters to leave Nigeria alone. It is not only the politicians that are stealing our money abroad, even the civil servants; we know them and we must attack them.

If the war on corruption is won, there will be investors, employment and development. Great Britain investors would have prefer to go and invest their money and technology in Nigeria which is just 5 to 6 hours journey than to go to Asian countries that are more than 12 hours journey if not for the level of corruption in Nigeria. We need to stop them now!

Why are the policemen and women are still in their uniforms while not on duty? Why are they not paying for transportation? Is Nigeria government having transport?

Look at our roads, because police are receiving bribe from transporter and car owners, 99.9% of the vehicles on our road got no genuine particulars. Now tell me where is the government going to get money to repair our roads? From petroleum? Madness. When you ask, the excuse is that they are not well paid. They should leave the job and go into farming.

Please see the attach file and think about Nigeria. We shall let you know as soon as our website is ready. We know that the time of talking is over.

No body should take our money illegally abroad anymore. No more room for money laundering and stop the bribery, Nigeria is losing billions because of these. Where are we going to get the money to develop Nigeria when some opportunists are taking the money abroad to waste, why buying houses abroad while you are not living there? All Nigerians must fight corruption to be able to have good schools in Nigeria instead of stealing Nigeria money to send their children abroad for best education. Nigerians must fight corruption to have good health care in Nigeria instead of stealing our money to go abroad for medical treatment. We must all fight corruption in Nigeria so that our children, children unborn and our grandchildren would be able to see where they belong instead of immigrating to abroad.

WHY WE MUST FIGHT CORRUPTION IN NIGERIA:
To allow investors to come in for investment
For development
Accountability
Employment
For good healthcare
Education
Food
Transportation
Security
Food
Housing
Water
Electricity
Telecommunication

We need your support. And God will help you too. We must remember that if the level of corruption in Nigeria were like the countries that the corrupt Nigerians are stealing our money to, where would they go? I keep on asking myself why should any Nigerian suffer? I know Nigeria and Nigerians very well, a country with talents and great manpower, a county blessed with every good things and natural resources.

We are coming up with a charity organisation in U.K. to assist the government of Nigeria and Nigerians to fight corruption. Our people need to be educated about the havocs of corruption. They must learn to say NO to corruption. They must be able to tell any of their families that are corrupt to stop it instead of encouraging him or her. They must be able to come out and report these corrupt opportunists.

You have helped many countries to fight just wars, so we are counting on you to help us to fight the war on corruption in Nigeria. I know the whole world is going to benefit from corrupt free Nigeria of over 150 millions because of the economic viability. Technologically, Nigeria is fertile and manpower is second to known and above all there is cheap labour. Then why should Nigerians suffer in the presence of plenty?

We are seriously seeking support all over the world because that is the only way out. NIGERIA MUST NOT DIE. Thanks for your anticipated co-operation and all Nigerians are counting on your support.

Yours,

Ade Adebayo
